Loser week 10

ok, so this week wasn't that great. i gained a pound! Darn it.

I worked out mon-wed, but then just flopped the rest of the week. And then I had a splurge day friday,....that seemed to just drag on all weekend, lol. I guess that happens with holidays though. All in all it's a wonder I didn't gain more than just a pound I guess!

So this week is gotta be better. Gotta not think about the mounds and mounds of candy the kids got at Easter, lol,. I have already worked out today, and have stayed on track with my food so far, so let's just see if I can keep it up the rest of the week.....

"It can't rain all the time"

"It can't rain all the time" (really it hasn't rained in a long time!) one of my favorite quotes from The crow (The other is "Mother is the word for God on the lips and hearts of little children" there ya go, some useless trivia for you....) to remind us that there are always down times, but they don't last forever. bear with me, this is a long one....

This last week was rough. It was a rough rough time.

Last friday Roman came home from school to tell me that a kid kicked him and called him "a piece of Sh*t". I asked him if he told the teacher and he said yes, but that she didn't do anything,. So I e-mailed her, and said I was giving her the benefit of the doubt, because maybe it was the end of the school day, maybe she got around to it later, maybe she talked to the kid without Roman ever knowing. But that Roman often got teased and bullied for being the different kid, and although I don't accept verbal abuse either, I do uinderstand that kids are mean, teachers aren't everywhere and that it happens. I feel like I can give Roman the tools he needs to deal with verbal abuse, but that this was physical abuse as well, and THAT I would not tolerate, so I wanted to know what she did about it, or planned on doing about it, to make sure it was taken care of and didn't happen again. She replied monday morning with "I handled it appropriately" and that was it. Not the answer I was looking for. I replied, saying how she probably noticed that day roman got a feather extension, and that he expressed some concern that kids would pull it at school, and how I hope she would be able to prevent this from happening. She replied tuesday saying she didn't notice anyone touching it. (This story is continued.....)

tuesday evening Bourbon went outside to feed and water the dogs, to discover a horrible tragic accident had happened. :(

Ever since we gave Snowball away, the dogs had been getting out of the yard, houdini like, several times a day. We had neighbors bringing them back, we had to drive around looking for them, no matter what we did they kept getting out. I'm pretty sure Bonita was out looking for Snowball, and Tex just went along for the ride. So we had to chain them up until we could figure out a way to keep them in. They both had a chain, near the shed out back so they could go in and out of it for shelter.

Somehow they got sooo tangled up, that both of their chains got wrapped again and again around Tex's neck and he was strangled. :(

Poor Bourbon, who has such a heart for animals (I think he likes them much more than people, lol) was the one to discover it.

Poor Bonita now has no puppy and no companion.

I didn't want to tell the other two before Alan had a chance to get tex out of the backyard. Alan got home late from taking his taxes to Duncan to his dad, and learned his puppy had died. He was VERY distraught. I'm not sure who took it worse, the kids or Alan. :(

I didn't have the heart to tell them the next morning before school, sending them to school sad, so i thought I would wait until they got home from school.

So Wed. Roman comes home with his feather in his hand (a girl at school had pulled it out), so sad anyways, and then we had to tell him tex was dead. Poor guy.

I asked him if he told the teacher, and he said "yes, but it doesn't matter, she never does anything, why should I tell her?!" He had actually told me both monday & tuesday that kids had been tugging on it each day at school, but that he hadn't told the teacher, I told him if he didn't tell her that she couldn't help him and get it to stop.

Of course I was one mad momma that this had happened. His teacher e-mailed me to say she was sorry, there would be consequnces, it had happened between classes. I asked what she was going to do about it, since not only was that painful for it to be ripped out of his head, but he spent his own money to put that in his hair, and it was supposed to last 2 months and didn't last a week, so this was destruction of property. She replied saying she couldn't disclose what she was going to do. This did not set well with me. I know the FERPA privacy laws regarding education and what you can tell & what you can't. And I came back and said that, and that I wasn't asking for the other child's name, nor her personal behavior or disciplanary record, I simple wanted to know what she as the teacher was doing to make sure it was taken care of and that this bullying would stop. I e-mailed the principal.

That night was youth group at church, and it was crazy hair night, and Roman wouldn't even be talked into participating. He was too upset.

Isn't she cute?!

needed to throw a bit of sunshine into this post, between all the thunderclouds... lol

Thursday was Starla's open house at school. She had been practicing for a couple of weeks, so excited she was going to get on stage and sing. She talked about it with anyone who would listen. I took her Wed. night to get her bangs cut, and she sang the songs to the lady that cut her hair. She sang them in the car, she sang them in the store. She was just SOOO excited about this program. Her teacher told me she hoped Starla sang just as well during the show as she did at practice, because she was so into the songs and just did the movements to them so well, and just was awesome.

Thursday was just one of those days. I was e-mailing back and forth between roman's principal and his teacher that morning, so we were running late, roman got to school a few minutes late, and Starla & i were about 10 mins or so late to work. I had baked one of my pillsbury creations that morning and brought it to school because it was one of my co-workers, Brigette's, last day of work. She had worked there 6 years, but got a better job as a Special ed. aide and they needed her to start right away to help with testing. We had a going away party of sorts that morning before classes started. My cake apparantly wasn't completely done because the middle collapsed. Then on the way to work, the cake dome fell over and frosting and blueberry juice ran all over my car floor. I get to work, get my bags all in, go clean up the mess, and realize I don't have my purse, i have forgotten it at home. Sigh. So my boss lets me leave and go back home and get it. The day continues to just be frantic and chaotic, i burn myself with the glue gun making our easter craft in class, I am in constant back and forth e-mails on my phone with Roman's school trying to deal with that, etc. etc.

Right after school we have time to go get the boys, get Starla into her dance gear and head out the door for dance....

Dance class!

After dance we rush back to school, get her changed and ready to go for her program.

This is Brigette & Myself.

Carol, our director, decided to start the program with a video farewell tribute to brigette.

So after the 20 min. video montage of pictures of the last several years of Brigette, the program starts. First the 2 year old sing 2 songs, then the younger 3 year olds get up and sign 2 songs...

then it's time for Starla's group, she walks on stage and instantly I see that her face is crumpled up....

And I'm thinking "oh my goodness, what is wrong with her?" and I scan to see if she has her bracelet on (it kept falling off so I thought maybe she lost it) and I am at a total loss as to what the heck could be wrong (of course everyone assumed it was stage fright, but anyone who really knows this child knows THAT is not the case, lol)

Mrs. Laura escorted her off stage before her group even started singing, where she ran to me, and I tried to figure out what the heck was going on! between frantic sobs she managed to say "I want miss Brigette to stay, I don't want her to leave!" She had no idea this was Brigette's last day until she saw the montage at the beginning of the program, and cried from the moment it started and didn't stop....I guess she didn't realize her going away party that morning, meant she was going away. And i didn't think to stop and explain it to her.

This was where she stayed the rest of the program....

I had no idea I should have prepared her for that, she rarely sees Brigette, i didn't think it would be that big of a deal!

this was back in her classroom a good 30 minutes later, STILL crying...sheesh my emotional drama queen!

All that time spent working on the songs she was SOOO excited to sing, the songs my in-laws drove from Duncan & my parents drove from Lake Eufaula to watch her sing and she didn't even sing a note.... sigh.

Friday morning I had a meeting set up with Roman's principal, whom I have known and liked for the last 4 years, he is a good guy. I had already e-mailed back and forth with him about the entire situation, as well as copied & pasted all the e-mails from the teacher & myself to him.

He said he had not been notified about any of it until my e-mails, and that he was so sorry, it should have been brought to his attention much sooner. He agreed that the teacher's replies were dismissive and unhelpful, and that he planned on having a discussion with her about it that day after school, about how all physical bullying was to be brought to his attention. He said how much he loved Roman's uniqueness and creativity and always had, and that he would not allow other kids to pick on him because he was different. he had already had a meeting with the girl who pulled the feather out of Roman's hair, and was in the process of contacting her parents, and was going to tell them that they must pay roman back for the damages to replace the feather. It was a good meeting, I felt confident in his actions to get things taken care of. He asked about Bourbon, and how my job search was going, and we chit-chatted. I hope Roman doesn't continue to be bullied, but I know that the principal will do whatever he can to prevent it.

Friday after school we ran up to the velvet monkey and got Roman's feather put back into his hair, and Starla decided she wanted one too (I was so glad Estrella said she wouldn't charge to put Roman's feather back in, and Starla could have the $5 price too, which was really just a special for the live on the plaza last weekend, normally they do a bunch of 7 feathers for $35, they don't normally do singles)

Of course it had to be pink. :)

Then Roman & Starla went to go spend the weekend in Duncan with Alan's mom & sister. Bourbon got to go spend the night at church with the youth group to go fix up a school, and then spent the next night with his friend Christian (who had also stayed at the church event). So Alan & I got to enjoy date day, woo hoo.

The twins from Starla's class, Grace & Elizabeth, invited us to their easter carnival at their church on sunday. They had bouncy houses, face painting, games & prizes, cotton candy, popcorn, and of course the easter bunny and an egg hunt. We had fun!

she must have ran herself out....

she came home and fell asleep in the chair....

Today was the Momma's group Easter get together, which of course is always fun....

Here's to a better week...although I do wish it would rain... :)

Loser week 8 & 9

Yep, I am a week behind on my loser posts. Darn it. Better late than never right?! :)

so last monday on weigh in day I only lost .8lbs, BUT I measure each month and I measured that week and I had lost 10.5 inches for the month, so I wasn't too disappointed with my slow weight loss. I know I am buidling muscle and losing inches!

Since January 10th I have lost 29.5 inches. Which looks like this:

Neck: -.5
R. Arm: -1
L arm: -1
Upper chest: -3
chest: -4.5
Midriff: -4.5
Waist: -5
Hips: -5
R. thigh: -1
L. thigh: -1
R. knee: -.5
L knee: -.5
R. calf: -1
L calf: -1

Awesome! I have lost the most in my middle, where I need it the most. I have lost 2 pants sizes. I have a long way to go, but I am well on my way.

Today was weigh in and I lost 2 lbs, which brings me to a total of 15.2 lbs in 9 weeks. I had a goal of 2.5 lbs a week, which clearly I have no met, so it's not going as quickly as I had planned, but that's ok. Even if it takes me a year or more to get where I want to be, i figure that year is going to pass whether I am losing weight or not, so I might as well be doing it.

I am doing pretty well with my excercise, although some days it's really hard to fit it in. Like today. I could have gotten up and went to the gym or did one of my DVD's, but instead I decided to finish up my Pillsbury recipes (today is the deadline) and do a bunch of stuff like make the kids appointments, balance the checkbook, and update my blogs. Then here in a bit we go to an Easter event with our momma's group, we get out in time to get Bourbon from school, then I have a little over an hour before we leave for Bourbon's group therapy, which we get back from at about 7pm, for a late dinner, baths, clean up, and time for bed. So sometimes it's hard to fit it in. I might leave a few minutes early for therapy and walk up the 5 flights of stairs instead of taking the elevator, because at least it is something.

The experts suggest 4-5 hours of excercise a week, half of it cardio, half strength training.

last week I got in 275 mins (4.58 hrs). So that's good. I really like going to the gym, but I find myself choosing my DVD's over the gym these days. I feel like they work me harder. I tried Jillian Michael's Yoga meltdown sunday morning, and it whipped my tushie! I bet I only did 2/3's of it, but that's ok, because I will keep doing it until I master it! :) And I love the Biggest Loser bootcamp DVD, because it goes through lots of cardio & strength training back and forth, known as circuit training, which is said to be more effective at losing weight than doing them seperately. I am only up to the 2nd level on the bootcamp, which i just started last week, so I'm not that great at it yet. But I will get there. there are 3 levels.

I don't count calories any longer, since I did it for several weeks, I have a good idea of how many calories i am getting in each thing. Which is the goal, to not have to count points or calories, but just to know how to eat. I try to eat whole foods mostly, and am doing a great job.

I usually have one splurge day a week, and one day without excercise. But i don't go overboard on my splurge, just a bit more than usual. And knowing I get that each week, if I have a craving during the week, i just think "oh, I can have that on monday, you can wait until then" and i am fine with that. And really, my cravings are about gone. It's true the more you eat sugars and empy carbs, the more you want them. Once they are pretty much out of your system, it's not even a thought. I can even look at those cupcakes right under my nose and not care if I eat it or not, when before just the thought of them, not even seeing them, but merely the thought could send me to cuppies & joe's to buy one. :)

And in January when I started drinking more water, it was a chore to get in 64 ozs. But now, I crave water. Anything else doesn't even sound good, or satisfy me. I bet I get 80 ozs or more in a day, I just always have it with me and always drink it. it's not a chore anymore, it's a habit.

So it feels good to have made lots of healthy changes. Even if I have a long way to go, I feel really good about the path I am on. :)

Why I love my job......

I really do love my job. I totally get my baby fix in, I love rocking the babies to sleep at nap time! I get to take Starla to work with me, and see her several times a day. I get to play, and sing and dance. I get to dress up!

last month was western day....

last week was renaissance day.....

And look at these faces..... wouldn't you love your job too?!

My last day of work for the summer is May 12th, and at this point in time I don't know if I get to work there or not again next year. There are so many things up in the air, it's kinda crazy. Starla starts Pre-K next year, which is only half a day. If I can avoid daycare, at all costs, that would be idea. I hate daycare. And it costs and arm & a leg. And with my parents being gone, I don't have any help to get the boys to and from school, and we don't have a bus. AND both boys schools are in jeopardy of closing next year, so where the heck will they even go to school then?! Starla could stay at our school now, they have a pre-k program which is still the full day, 3 day a week thing like now, and I could work there another year, but I don't know. Teacher jobs are scarce, and even if I got one I don't know what I would do with my kids. My church is opening up a campus here in MWC, and I thought of applying for the Child care director job, but it opens in July and there's no way I am paying for daycare for 3 kids during the summer if I got a full time job. That would be about what I would make I would imagine! But the church is also going to open a charter school, probably not for another year though, but I would love to get a job at a charter school, which has some freedoms from the regulations of public schools. I would have freedom to teach the way I want, as long as my students could meet standards of learning. Which would be idea for me. But that's another year away before they open the school.

You know what I would love to do if I could? Take this next school year and home school the kids. Just for one year, until Starla was in full day kindegarten. Bourbon would hate it, lol. I've always wanted to home school the kids, I would love to do it just for the experience. And to have that time with the kids. They are growing up so fast, ad I know my time with them is limited. I would love to just pour into them and their education and have a bit of control over what they are taught and how they are taught. Both boys are having such a hard time in school because they are bored. I would love to make it fun and interesting for them. I would love to get Bourbon away from some of the negative influences in middle school. I just feel like it would be so good for all of us. But again, there are so many things up in the air, I have no idea what is going to happen.....

Our bakesale & Live at the Plaza

I love Live on the Plaza. On the 2nd friday of each month they basically have a block party, where all the businesses on the block have an open house. They have live music, and local artists have shows, and people set up booths for different organizations and businesses, the Big Truck Taco truck is always there, and sometimes the Pops truck is there (but not this time). It's always just a lot of fun.

I was so glad Estrella (who owns the Velvet Monkey salons) said yes when I asked if I could set up my bakesale in front of her salon during the event. I knew there would be lots of people already out there, so it made it easy having ahigh traffic area, rather than just setting up in front of a random store.

I could not have done it without her, or any of the other people that pulled together to make this work!

SOOO many wonderful people helped to get this show on the road. I had so many people who were baking, and buying goods to donate! Including this awesome cake....

I was blown away by Pinkitzel's generous donation of 4 dozen cupcakes (12 different flavors!). The charge $3.95 a cupcake, so this was approx $192 worth of cupcakes! WOW! And all I did was ask. :)

A local bakery called Sara Sara Cupcakes donated 2 boxes of 3 cupcakes....

so many of our friends came out to support our bake sale!

The boys made signs to hold up at the sale....

Starla had her very first sleep over at a friends house that night. We actually dropper her off at her friend Persephone's house on the way out to the bake sale, but Amanda (Persephone's mom) brought the girls out there for a bit. Starla did really well for her first sleep over, no crying to come home, and she had a blast!

there was an easter egg hunt....

The easter bunny was there!

and for some reason there was a guy walking around in a teletubby suit.... :)

The Velvet Monkey set up a table next to us to do $5 feather extensions (a colored feather they weave into your hair, which will stay in up to 2 months)

Of course Roman wanted one.... :)

my wonderful hubby & boys waited in an incredibly long line at the Big Truck taco truck to get me a taco....:)

Our goal was $250, and we made $402!!! It was so much fun, it is all going to a great cause, and I'm so glad we did it.
