Happy 4th of July

What is a holiday without cupcakes?! :)

We made them red, white & blue!

Then of course there had to be sprinkles and flags....

Happy 4th of July!!!

I'm loving Starla's cute little outfit!

The kiddos & I are heading to lake Eufala where my parents, grandma and assorted family members are. We will stay the night and have a fun time full of family, fishing, food and fireworks! Woo hoo!

friday fun

I love farm day! It takes us about 45 mins. to drive there, and it's a drive full of greenery and farms and cows and goats, it's a fun little mini road trip.

Roman LOVES the farm, but I think his favorite part is checking for eggs. He says he wants to be a farmer and have a big farm some day. :)

This week we brought bread to feed to the chickens.....

She has some of the prettiest flowers....

And I love that each week we get a bigger basket and more goodies! This week it was full of flowers, cantalopes, eggplant, squash, potatoes, onions, purple beans, green peppers, lettuce, cucumbers, corn in the husk, radishes, and a HUGE bag of fresh basil that smells so wonderful. I am having so much fun finding ways to use basil, because it is soooo yummy!! We get new stuff each week! Last week she gave me so many cherry tomatos I didn't even know what to do with them all!!

We pass over a bridge over thunderbird lake to get to the farm each week, and we decided we should stop and have a picnic lunch after visiting the farm, so that's what we did friday. We packed a lunch, and the farmer gave us a couple extra cantalopes when she heard about our picnic!

Bourbon was having no part of that dirty lake....

but the other two jumped right in!

I did tell them that it's nickname is Dirty Bird. :)

A day jammed packed full of summer

Thursday we got up and packed a picnic lunch and went to the zoo.

We really like the new children's zoo, there's so much to do there!

We love the lorikeets!

We got to the butterfly garden just in time to help release butterflies that had just arrived from florida!

After we ate our lunch we went home so Starla could take a nap.

After Starla's nap, we went to the pool for a little bit. Daddy was even home from work for the moment and went with us

Starla LOVES the slide....

The boys (all 3 of them) had a blast on the diving board.....

After the pool we came home and made homemade pizza for dinner. The kids had plain ol' cheese, but for the adults I made panchetta, mozzarella and fresh basil from the farm...mmmmmmmmmm.

Is there anything better on a warm summer evening, than chasing down the ice cream man with a pocket full of change rescued from the piggy bank moments after hearing the familar tune coming down your street?

Next we headed to the park, where every thursday in the summer they have live bands. This week was a blues band called Act Casual, they played lots of great bluesy tunes, but also some great oldies!

I LOVE going to these things and feeling a sense of community. There were quite a few people out there, spread out on blankets and on lawn chairs. Families with little kids, people with doggies, 70+ year old couples dancing old school dances from the 60's, kids dancing and laughing and playing..... it's just nice.

Roman enjoying the tunes

dance like no one is watching.....

The kids only stuck around on our blankets for a few minutes before heading over to the playground, where they played for the hour and a half that we were there. What a good day.
